The Rise of Eco-Friendly Packaging: Simple Swaps That Make a Big Impact

9th December 2025

Sustainability is no longer a trend, it’s an expectation. As businesses across Australia look for ways to reduce their environmental footprint, packaging has become one of the most practical areas for meaningful change. The good news? You don’t need to overhaul your entire operation to make a difference. Small, simple swaps can create long-term positive impact.

One of the easiest starting points is replacing plastic-based adhesive tapes with PVC-Free tape, Kraft Paper tape or water-activated tape. These options reduce plastic waste, work seamlessly in most packing environments, and are compatible with recycling streams, making disposal easier and cleaner.

Many business owners realise quickly that not only does do these adhesive tape alternatives look good on their finished products, but they work extremely well also. No longer does business have to compromise on quality of sealing options to reduce their environmental footprint.

Another effective change is switching to biodegradable twines or natural-fibre alternatives like cotton or jute. Unlike synthetic materials that linger in the environment, natural twines break down without leaving harmful residues behind. Examples of these are Venhart’s Cotton Shop twines. Used widely in meatpacking, small goods production and in many retail bakery settings, it’s unbleached and untreated so it’s food safe. On top of this it is fully recyclable after its initial use.

Every eco-friendly substitution helps reduce landfill reliance, minimise microplastic pollution, and support the growing shift toward circular packaging systems. As awareness increases, so does the demand for accessible, practical sustainable options, and that’s the direction packaging is heading.
