How to Protect Your Fruit Trees

4th December 2024

Damage to fruit and vegetables from birds and bats is a common concern for fruit tree growers whether it be in an orchard or a veggie patch in the backyard. Proactive plant care will keep your fruit trees protected for years to come so you can enjoy your harvest year after year. Fruit tree netting is the most effective option for protecting your trees and crops from wildlife.

For the backyard growers, drape netting is a simple and affordable option. To secure your fruit netting, pull it tightly over your tree and fix the netting to the tree trunk to stop mice and birds from getting in underneath. Drape netting can protect your trees from birds, mice, bats and small animals. To protect trees from smaller birds, a netting enclosure where the netting is mounted to a structure sitting above the fruit trees would be a better option. Protective netting should be placed on trees after pollination.

At Venus Packaging, we offer fruit tree netting that protects against damage from birds and small animals, and also large hailstones. They’re available in black or white, won’t absorb moisture and are UV stabilised. They’re available in sheets that are 4m wide by 5m, 15m or 50m lengths, or rolls of 7m x 300m and 15m x 300m.
